Third Thursday at the Museum
Sacramento History Museum
Making a list and checking it twice, we’ve got gifts for everyone
at the Museum Store. Open late for Old Sacramento Waterfront’s
Third Thursday. We will have Laurie Roper from our Living History
program hosting free demonstrations of the art of tatting. Enjoy
the fun and create an original tatted lace ornament for your tree
or give it to a friend. Better yet, bring a friend and both make
this beautiful craft for the holiday.
Tatting originated in the early 19th century. It is lacework made
with fine thread and a shuttle, essentially knot-making. The art
of tatting likely evolves from older knotting techniques used by
sailors. This is one craft machines cannot replicate – it is a
portable hand craft perfect for those who like fidget toys and
something easy to travel.
We will have extended hours with the demonstrations starting at
4pm and closing at 8pm. Stay for awhile and enjoy the museum,
exhibits include the Story of the Campbell’s Soup Plant in
Sacramento for 66 years, the RCAF in Mictlan: 50th Anniversary of
Dia de los Muertos, and the Shingle Springs Band of Miwok present
the traditions of the Nisenan people.
