Class will break from 1-2 PM both days.\nWHERE: The Eagle Theater – 921 Front Street\, Sacramento \nABOUT: Explore the joyful world of the red nose clown\, a small mask with big power for honesty\, curiosity\, and connection. Over two days\, we’ll discover our uniqueness through improvisation and clowning exercises that help you stay present\, follow your impulses\, and enjoy the beauty of mistakes. Work together with a supportive ensemble to find your inner child and take creative risks. The workshop ends with a short performance for an audience on Day Two. No experience needed! Students may make their own lunch plans or join us for a group lunch at Frankie’s Pizza (a 5 minute walk). \nABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR: \nSasha Kostyrko (she/her) is a theatre artist whose work lives at the intersection of rigor and play\, drawing from devised ensemble methodologies and movement-based practices. She most recently directed Little Women with Bozeman Actors Theatre. Her 2024 staging of John Miller Giltner’s Dead Dad Show won Best Comedy at the Philadelphia Fringe Festival. Sasha has also created and produced her own work\, including Atlantic City: City of Dreams\, a satirical musical exploring capitalism’s mythologies\, and Threnody: A Wailing Ode or Poem of Mourning. Sasha holds an MFA in Devised Theater Performance from The University of the Arts/Pig Iron School and a BFA in Acting from Oklahoma City University. \nFood & Drink\nTo help care for this historic space\, we kindly ask that guests avoid spillable\, sticky\, or messy foods and drinks. With over a decade of experience guiding groups through creative discovery and problem solving\, Bernie designs environments where small actions and strong relationships can spark meaningful change. \nBernie has spent the past seven years performing improv across Sacramento and is currently a core member of Haus of Comedy teams Sharks Barksley and Yes\, Clef!\, and co-directs the narrative improv ensemble Super Scene. Whether in a rehearsal room\, board retreat\, or community event\, Bernie uses improv tools and principles to help people connect more deeply to themselves\, each other\, and new ways of thinking. \nIn addition to improv workshops\, Bernie has facilitated programs for all ages and sectors\, ranging from corporate\, public\, and nonprofit training to K–12 classrooms\, children’s innovation camps\, and garden-based learning. They previously served as Board President and Artistic Community Director at Empire Arts Collective\, where they designed and led the Collective Brilliance Experience\, a multi-week workshop series that blends improv\, reflective practice\, and facilitation tools to help artists\, organizers\, and community members develop their individual and collective creative ideas.
